Medical Laboratory Technologist
YOUR JOB is to perform laboratory investigations on specimens taken from the body for purposes of diagnosing diseases. Using sophisticated laboratory equipment, you will look for bacteria, parasites and other microorganisms; analyze the chemical content of fluids; match blood for transfusions; and monitor drug levels in the blood to determine response to treatment. MLTs study many areas of science including chemistry, hematology, immunology, histology, transfusion medicine and microbiology.
YOU CAN WORK IN hospital medical laboratories, private laboratories and clinics, research, commercial industry and public health laboratories.
YOUR EDUCATION INCLUDES completion of Senior 4 with course requirements to enter program, plus graduation from an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology/Science Program offered through a university or community college.
